40여 년간 여관으로 운영되던 ‘신사장’ 건물의 개보수 프로젝트이다. 대상지는 도로에 면한 여관 건물과 그 뒤편의 주택, 총 두 개의 동으로 이루어져 있다.

여관 건물은 작은 객실들로 세분되어 있던 기존 벽체를 철거하여 평면을 시원하게 개방하였다. 또한 3층 바닥 일부를 철거해 중이층 구조를 도입함으로써 수직적으로도 확장된 공간감을 확보하였다. 전기 및 설비를 포함한 모든 기반 시설은 전면 교체하여 새롭게 구축하였다. 뒤편의 주택 역시 대대적인 보수 작업을 진행하여 1층은 사무실 용도로, 2층은 주거 용도로 사용할 수 있도록 기능을 재구성하였다.

This project is a renovation of the “Shinsajang” building, which had operated as an inn for over 40 years. The site consists of two separate structures: the former inn facing the street and a residential house located at the rear.

In the inn building, the existing partition walls that subdivided the space into small guest rooms were removed to create a more open and generous floor plan. A portion of the third-floor slab was also removed to introduce a mezzanine level, allowing for an expanded sense of vertical space. All infrastructure, including electrical and mechanical systems, was completely replaced and newly installed. The house at the rear underwent extensive renovation as well. Its program was reorganised so that the first floor functions as office space, while the second floor is designed for residential use.
