영등포구 당산동의 오래된 공장 건물 일부를 리모델링해 조성한 아티스트 박진우의 작업실이다. 기존 산업 건축의 거친 구조를 그대로 남긴 채, 내부에 또 하나의 구조를 삽입하는 ‘공간 안의 공간’ 개념으로 계획되었다.

1층은 사무와 작업을 위한 공간으로, 2층은 작품을 전시할 수 있는 갤러리 공간으로 구성하였다. 1층의 작은 나무창에는 흔히 ‘쇼바’라 불리는 유압 완충장치를 설치해 사용자가 손쉽게 열고 닫을 수 있도록 하였다.

2층의 대형 목창은 1층에 설치한 전동 모터와 도르레 시스템을 이용해 개폐가 가능하도록 계획하였다. 물리적 힘을 최소화하면서도 건물의 스케일에 맞는 역동적인 움직임을 만들어내는 장치로, 기존 공장의 기계적 분위기와도 자연스럽게 맞닿는다.

This project is the studio of artist Jinwoo Park, created through the renovation of a portion of an old factory building in Dangsan-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu. Retaining the rough industrial structure of the existing building, the design introduces a new internal volume based on the concept of a “space within a space.”

The first floor functions as an office and working area, while the second floor serves as a gallery space for exhibiting artworks. Small wooden windows on the ground floor are fitted with hydraulic dampers—commonly referred to as “shocks”—allowing them to be opened and closed with ease.

The large wooden window on the second floor is operated through an electric motor and pulley system installed on the first floor. This mechanism minimises physical effort while generating a dynamic movement proportionate to the scale of the building, resonating naturally with the mechanical character of the former factory.
